Experience the magic of the Wadden Sea during this special 8-day journey. Since 2009, the Wadden Sea has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for good reason. This unique area is home to over 10,000 rare plant and animal species and offers a breathtaking landscape of sandbanks, islands, and unspoiled nature. During the Wadden Weeks, you will visit several of the five inhabited islands and experience the unique phenomenon of drying out.

A Dynamic Adventure on the Wadden Sea

The Wadden Sea is known for its dynamic nature. At times, the water is as smooth as a mirror, while at other times, a powerful storm shapes the landscape. The channels between the sandbanks have strong currents due to the continuous influence of ebb and flood. These natural elements form the charm of the Wadden Sea and make every journey unique.

Flexible Travel Itinerary Adapted to Weather and Tides

Because the Wadden Sea is constantly changing, we adjust the route just before departure based on the weather conditions and tides. The goal is to visit three of the Wadden Islands and, if conditions allow, to let the ship Josefien “dry out” on a sandbank.

The Unique Experience of Drying Out

Drying out is one of the most remarkable experiences the Wadden Sea has to offer. At high tide, the ship is intentionally run aground on a sandbank. As the tide goes out, the water slowly recedes, and the ship comes to rest completely dry on the seabed. At that point, you can disembark and take a walk across the bottom of the Wadden Sea — a unique experience that is virtually impossible to find anywhere else in the world. When the tide returns, the ship begins to float again and continues its journey.
